This month the Mesa Synth crew made the pilgrimage to Amsterdam, a city that pulses with electronic music culture and innovation. This wasn’t just a casual visit; we came to experience two essential stops for any synthesizer enthusiast: the legendary Amsterdam Dance Event and the specialized gear haven that is Midi Amsterdam. Between exploring cutting-edge sound design and getting our hands on some dream machines, our trip became an unforgettable deep dive into the heart of Europe’s electronic music scene.
Amsterdam Dance Event is a five-day festival and conference that transforms the entire city into a celebration of electronic music, featuring over 2,500 artists across more than 300 venues. Held annually in mid-October, ADE has grown into the world’s largest club-based festival for electronic music, attracting over 400,000 attendees from around the globe. The event combines massive club nights with an extensive conference program covering everything from music production techniques to the business side of the industry, making it both a party and a learning experience for electronic music professionals and enthusiasts alike.
Midi Amsterdam, located at Overtoom 431, specializes in studio equipment, DJ gear, and modular synthesizers, with particular expertise in Eurorack systems. The shop is known for its extensive product selection and knowledgeable staff who provide tailored advice to electronic music enthusiasts. For synthesizer lovers, it’s a paradise; walls lined with modules, desktop synths, and all the cables and cases you need to build your dream setup. The showroom offers a hands-on experience that online shopping simply can’t match, making it a must-visit destination for anyone serious about synthesis, (or even synth-curious!) The staff at Midi Amsterdam were all super friendly and eager to talk synths. We can’t wait to go back!
